Inside Real Studios: Sisters Studio

Today we’re taking a tour of 'Sisters Studio' in Northern Michigan. Katie and Carrie have operated this lovely 430 sq ft residential photography space for the past 13 years. Learn about their studio, read their tips for opening one of your own and learn how they use Design Aglow products in their business. 

What makes your studio special? 

Our clients love the minimalist, less is more approach at our all-white natural light studio. We use simple backdrops, props, and lighting techniques to create clean, contemporary portraits of children, teens, and small families. For the past decade our studio has also served as a warm and inviting space to arrange adoption debut portrait sessions for local shelter cats, and a loving foster home for over fifty cats and kittens. As long time animal lovers and advocates, we're happy to be utilizing our studio space to give back to our community and a cause that is so near and dear to our hearts.

How has it helped your business? 

Our studio offers a comfortable, homey atmosphere for wedding consults and in-house ordering sessions as well as an area to display our awesome line of boutique photo goodies including prints, gallery wraps, coffee table books, weddings albums, and custom cards. This allows our clients to have a firsthand look at the products they're investing in and gives us the opportunity to provide a full-service boutique studio experience and set ourselves apart from our competition. In addition to providing an indoor option for children's, teens, and family portrait sessions we also use the space for business and commercial sessions. Local healthcare providers, insurance agents, realtors and artists are referred to our studio for professional headshots and product photos.

Do you have any tips for opening a studio?

Keep it simple. Start small. You don't need a large space or gobs of props, backgrounds, and fancy lighting to get started. Create the space in your home if possible, rather than leasing or buying commercial property. Ensure your studio space is cohesive with your brand and will appeal to the clientele you want to attract.

What products do you sell the most?

Our most popular products are wedding albums, canvas gallery wraps and wall prints.

Do you use Design Aglow products in your studio? If so, which product(s), and how have they helped your sales?
