selling gift certificates as last minute holiday gifts

selling gift certificates as last minute holiday gifts

‘Tis the season...for clients to be harried and forgetful and scrambling for holiday gifts. Needless to say, the fall/winter crush is when we all get, well, crushed. Why not capitalize on that by offering ready-made gift certificates your clients can present as last-minute gifts? Consider printing a stack of 5x7” cards on beautiful stock to have on hand (or in frames) for clients having a “oh my gosh I didn’t get something for them” moment. Promote this service to your clients through your blog and email newsletter, and offer gift certificates as a simple upsell after every photo shoot. Another smart idea: run a holiday promotion enticing clients with cash for cash, where your studio matches the amount of any gift certificate purchase with product credit. (If you run this promo, we’d love to hear your success story! Tell us all about it here.)

Bottom line: selling gift certificates for the holiday season means easy revenue, a new base of future clients, and the feeling that you’re a holiday hero.

I became a legal business and took my first paid client at age 20, and it's been quite a journey and adventure over the past nine years.

My business goals have changed a lot over the last few years. This year, my hope is to work on a handful of commercial projects with companies I believe in, and to carve out more time to work on personal projects. Both are important, but I believe growth and your creative voice is developed when you let your imagination run free without the constraints of it being “work.”
