Simplicity Collages

In this tutorial we'll go through all aspects of using your “Simplicity Collages” product.
ABOUT THE COLLAGE
If you open one of the PSD file in Photoshop you will see a separate layer for every image position.  Each of these layers is fully-editable, meaning you may change easily the sizes and orientations. WHAT'S IN YOUR DOWNLOAD FOLDER
This template is simple, fun, and so easy to use!  First, let's take a look at what came in your download folder.
PSD_FILE ”“ This folder contains the PSD files you will be using in Photoshop.
ACTIONS - This folder contains actions to automatically add your images in both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements.  They are separated into a folder for Photoshop, and a folder for Elements. PSE_ACTIONS ”“ This bonus folder contains actions to add your images if you are using Photoshop Elements 6 or newer.  Click here to learn how to add and run actions in PSE.
JPEG_PREVIEWS ”“ This folder contains a small preview of each collage for easy reference.
read_me_pretty_please_template_copyright.txt ”“ This text file contains a quick word on copyright.
TUTORIAL.txt ”“ This text file contains a link to the tutorial you're reading now.
THE COLLAGE SIZE The PSD of these collages are sized to 16x20.  All of the image layers in the collage are in vector format, which means you may size any of the items up or down without any loss in quality.  We recommend sizing your collage to the final print size before inserting your images.
USING THE ACTIONS TO INSERT IMAGES
There are several actions to help you easily add your images to the templates.  You can add them all at once (using the action that corresponds to the number of images in the collage, such as "INSERT 4 IMAGES" or you can add the images one at a time by selecting the image layer you would like to populate (such as IMAGE LAYER 3) and running the “INSERT ONE IMAGE” action.
INSERTING IMAGES BY HAND
There are two ways to insert your images into the collage.  The first way is by hand and the second is by using the bundled action.  Depending on your design style, you may prefer to insert images by hand. To do this, open the template and perform the following:
1. Mouse over the layer you would like to insert your image into, right click it, and choose it from the list.  For example, if you would like to insert an image into position 5, choose IMAGE LAYER 5 from the list.
2.  The layer will now be selected in your LAYERS palette.
3.   Choose FILE -> OPEN and choose the image you would like to insert into this space.
4.  Choose the MOVE tool. (Keyboard shortcut “V”) And drag the image onto the multi collage.
5. With the image you've just placed selected, choose “CREATE CLIPPING MASK” from the drop down menu at the top right of the layers palette.  This will confine your image within the boundaries of the IMAGE LAYER.
6.   Use the FREE TRANSFORM tool (Keyboard shortcut Control+T) and drag in the corners of your image to position it correctly within the frame.  (Hold SHIFT while you drag to constrain proportions, so your image won't get “smooshed”.)
7.  Press Enter to apply the transformation.
CHANGING THE COLOR OF THE BACKGROUND
1. Select the background layer you would like to change in the LAYERS palette (called BACKGROUND COLOR). 2. Double click on the colored box to the left of the layer name (this is the color fill). 3.  Choose a new color. 4. Click “OK”. FONTS In our sample, we used the font “Aka Dora”.  The fonts we use in our designs are usually freeware or shareware fonts available on the internet.  We cannot include the fonts in your download because they are protected under copyright.  However you can download them directly from their creators.   We find that if you type in the name of the font into your favorite search engine you will come up with several download sources.
